# What's New in Recall > Source: https://www.joinrecall.com/whats-new > Release notes for Recall, newest first, with the version number and month of each build. Recall improves in the open. This page lists what landed recently, newest first. Updates arrive automatically, so you only have to keep the app running. After each update, Recall shows you what changed, and you can reopen it anytime from Settings. Platform: macOS (Apple Silicon, M1 or newer). Windows is in active development. ## Recall 0.44.0 (October 2026) - **No more surprise folder prompts.** macOS asks before an app looks into your Desktop, Documents or Downloads folder, or an external drive. Recall checks whether the file you have open belongs to a project folder, and it used to do that for PDFs in Preview and for Pages, Numbers and Keynote documents too, so opening a PDF from Downloads could set off a prompt out of nowhere. Those documents no longer trigger it, the check stops at your home folder, and when macOS does ask, the prompt now says why: Recall doesn't read or upload your files, and saying no only makes the grouping a little less precise. - **The Feedback window says what it blacks out.** Images you attach are checked on your Mac first: card numbers, bank details, keys and seed phrases are blacked out, and an image that can't be checked isn't sent. The hint under Attachments now says exactly that, and that names, emails and message text stay, so look an image over before you attach it. - **Smoother.** Fixed three places where Recall could freeze the app for a few seconds: while saving its own diagnostic records, and twice in its hourly diagnostics upload. - **Setup you can follow.** Two new setup counts help us find where installs get stuck: that Recall began following your work after setup, and that its on-device AI couldn't start, with a broad reason only. Neither says anything about your screen, and with analytics switched off they're sent anonymously like the other setup counts. A screen-recording permission granted during setup is now counted correctly after the restart macOS asks for. ## Recall 0.43.0 (October 2026) - **Smart Return, rebuilt around getting you back.** On top: where you left off, with your note or the question you left open, and one line that says exactly what comes back, like "Opens Claude chat (VS Code) and Chrome". Click Choose to untick anything, then Return to where you were: one click, no second screen. Below: one "Waiting on you" list, in the same order as the tray, with one action per row: Go to session, Open chat, or Return to it. - **Every return shows what it will open.** Wherever you go back from (Smart Return, the tray, Loops, a thread page, a reminder), Recall first lists each app, tab, file and chat it is about to reopen, all ticked. Untick what you don't need. Nothing opens until you say so, and Cancel changes nothing. If you had a Claude Code or Codex chat open on that thread, that exact chat comes back too. - **Coding agents that are waiting on you.** Claude Code and Codex sessions that need your approval, or have finished and are waiting for you, show up in the tray, in the Agents list in Loops and on Smart Return, and Go to session takes you straight to the tab. A session stuck on a permission prompt for five minutes gets one quiet nudge, and one that is merely waiting never nags. A Codex conversation opens where it runs, in the Codex app or in VS Code. For precise tracking, turn on the small hooks in Settings, under Integrations, and remove them any time. - **Talk to us, and get an answer, inside Recall.** Send Feedback is now a conversation. When we reply, you get a notification and a dot on the tray, and the answer waits under Conversations in the Feedback window. Write back from the same place. Nothing from your work is attached unless you choose to include it, and screenshots are scrubbed before they leave your Mac. - **Loops, as lists.** Waiting, People, Agents, Notes, one list per project, and Tidy up for merge and split suggestions, like Reminders. The Notes page lives here now. One Move to project picker works everywhere, including asks, agent sessions and project notes, and Recall learns from every move. Loops is also stricter about what counts as unfinished, and its counts are people and agents, never guesses. - **The tray is your day.** Active time and the split by project, one "Waiting on you" line, and what you worked on, newest first. Step back up to six days with the arrows. Today in the main window is now a timeline, one lane per project. - **Hours you can trust.** Time away from your Mac no longer counts as work, even over a weekend left awake. A day can never show more than the day, and totals inflated by these bugs are corrected automatically on update. - **Recall Core v1.1.** An updated version of our own on-device model, trained on more real work. It reads unfamiliar screens better, and its labels, summaries and day recaps stay grounded in what was on screen. Projects are named after the repo, document or site, never a machine id, and a coding agent's stale tab title no longer names your work. Updating downloads it once and removes the previous version. - **Usage analytics and crash reports, your choice.** Recall now sends usage analytics: which screens and features get used, linked to a random install ID, never anything from your screen, your work, your notes or your messages. It is on by default. Turn it off any time in Settings, under Privacy, with the Usage analytics and crash reports switch, and crash reports follow the same switch. What's sent lists every event in plain words, and Delete my analytics data erases what we hold. Counts of how far setup gets, with no install ID, are sent either way. - **Setup asks before it does anything.** Recall asks before downloading its on-device AI (a one-time 1.9 GB) and opens joinrecall.com only when you click Start free trial. You can finish setup while the download runs, and the menu bar shows its progress. - **Faster and steadier.** No more short freezes when an app is slow to answer. Leaving a note with Option-Command-B never stalls and lands on the window you are actually in. Notifications bring their window to the front, a crash when the model process restarted is fixed, and a reaction in a chat's activity feed no longer turns into a new request. ## Recall 0.42.0 (September 2026) - **Meet Recall Core, our own model.** Recall no longer runs a stock open-source model. Recall Core v1 was trained by us on the one job that matters here, reading a screen and telling what you are working on, and it still runs entirely on your Mac. Against the previous release, on the same screens and the same Macs: twice as fast per screen, thread names right 88% of the time instead of 56%, detours told from real work 93% instead of 53%, new work filed under the right topic 90% instead of 22%, and a 1.6 GB download instead of 2.3 GB. Updating downloads it once and removes the old model automatically. - **Your free trial is now 30 days.** New installs get 30 days, and a trial already running extends to 30 days from install. Sharing diagnostics still stretches it to three months. - **Recall keeps track of what you were asked to do.** Asks in Slack, Teams, Telegram, WhatsApp or Mail, and promises you make back, show up in Loops under Asked of you and You promised, and on every Smart Return. Reminders are quiet: at most once a day per ask, never mid-conversation. Message text never leaves your Mac. - **The menubar tray, redesigned.** One shape in every mode: your load at a glance, Smart Return and Capture, and Kept · Loops · Start tabs with counts. - **Dark theme.** Settings, under Appearance: System, Light or Dark. - **Notes, in one place.** A Notes tab lists every note you left, by day, with where you left it. Option-Command-B can now leave a note on any project, and notes are never erased, only archived. - **Also in this release.** Move work to the right project and Recall learns from it. Smart Return only offers work that is genuinely waiting. Summaries never contain facts that were not on screen. Finished topics stay finished, and merges can be undone. Less battery on still screens, the on-device model now starts reliably on macOS 15, and the few-second freezes are gone. ## Recall 0.41.0 (August 2026) - **Your corrections stick, and Recall learns from them.** Rename a thread, move it to the right project, rename or merge projects and topics: every correction is now permanent, and your words start showing up in how Recall names similar work. - **Search your day.** Today has a search box. Type a few letters and Recall finds threads by name, summary, or the note you left with Option-Command-B. - **Start: one click back into a project.** Recall learns which apps you usually open together for each project and offers the combination as a one-click Start row in the menubar tray. Press Option-Command-P for the full launcher. Nothing to set up. - **Drift reminders are back, and smarter.** Clear detours get a gentle reminder in about five minutes, work-looking rabbit holes get a longer leash, and the reminder still reaches you right after a thread closes. It learns from how you respond. - **Design and creative work is recognized properly.** Figma files, Photoshop projects, Miro boards and similar work show up as real projects once you return to them. - **What's new, in the app.** After each update, Recall shows you what changed. Reopen it anytime from Settings. - **Quieter and steadier.** Notifications from background apps no longer wake Recall or trigger the return panel. Occasional multi-second freezes are gone. The menubar tray no longer renders garbled, and thread names stopped picking up odd half-sentences. - **Uninstall properly.** Settings, under Data, removes everything cleanly, and reinstalling later runs setup again as it should. ## Recall 0.40.0 (August 2026) - **Some things are none of Recall's business.** Recall recognizes adult and other clearly private content on screen and refuses to record it. Nothing is analyzed, nothing is written down, and no trace lands in your history. This release also sweeps your existing history once and removes anything the filter would have blocked. - **Pause Recall with two clicks.** The menubar tray has a Pause button: 15 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours, the rest of the day, or until you turn it back on. While paused the menubar icon changes, so there is never a question about whether Recall is watching. Pause indefinitely and Recall reminds you later that it is still off. - **Two projects at once no longer confuse Recall.** Every screen moment is assigned to exactly one thread the instant it happens, and titles and summaries are built only from moments that belong to that thread. When your activity is genuinely mixed, Recall says nothing instead of guessing wrong. - **Smart Return, easier to read.** One clear "where you left off" block up top, and an "Also waiting" list below with everything else on your plate. Clicking an item lets you look first. Nothing opens until you press "Return to where you were". - **A cleaner Loops tab.** Loops opens with a quick summary of what is waiting on you, freshest first. Anything untouched for over a month is tucked away, and snoozed loops show when they will wake up. - **Fixes.** Long-lived AI chat tabs no longer stamp their title onto unrelated threads, coming back Monday shows your last active day instead of the empty weekend, and notes left with Option-Command-B appear in Smart Return right away. ## Recall 0.39.0 (August 2026) - **A completely new welcome.** Setup is a guided five-step tour with a live demo of a work thread being captured, interrupted, held, and brought back. The privacy explanation was rewritten to be literally true: what Recall reads, what it never stores, and what leaves your Mac only if you choose to share diagnostics. Setup previews the occasional macOS screen-access re-confirmation prompt so it never surprises you, and the AI model download starts by itself while you read. - **Breadcrumbs.** Press Option-Command-B anywhere and type one line about where you left off. It attaches to the thread you are on and is the first thing Smart Return shows when you come back. Recall can also offer the note automatically when you get pulled away, and asks once whether you want that. - **Invite a friend.** A few days in, Recall asks two small favors, once: share feedback, and invite someone who might need it. Type their email and we send one invitation with your personal link. We never email that address again. - **Recall tells you it is learning.** After setup the menu opens itself so you see where Recall lives, and a gentle pulse explains that it needs a few hours of normal work before your day appears. - **Fixes.** Smart Return reliably opens Today when there is nothing to resume, plus many small window and layout fixes across the new screens. ## Recall 0.38.0 (July 2026) - **We heard you: Recall is quieter now.** The most consistent feedback since launch is that Recall interrupts too much. Most proactive panels are off by default until we make them good enough to earn your attention. Smart Return and the drift reminder stay on, and all five nudges are yours to configure in Settings, under Nudges. - **Windows open where you are.** Recall windows open on the Space you are on, right on top of what you are doing, the way a system dialog would. First click works, the window lands on the tab you asked for, and closing it hands focus back to the app you came from. A phantom hidden window that silently broke menubar navigation is gone for good. - **Help us make Recall smarter, and get 3 months free.** Recall is in early beta, and real-world diagnostics are what we use to improve project recognition and task understanding. Share diagnostics and your free trial runs 3 months instead of 30 days, for as long as sharing stays on. Optional, off by default, stored in the EU, deleted after 30 days. If you are already sharing, the extended trial applies to you automatically. - **Also in this release.** Summon Smart Return anytime with the menubar button or Option-Command-R. Capture a task straight off your screen with Option-Command-T. Global shortcuts are remappable in Settings. Drift reminders fire correctly when you slide into leisure inside a work session, and an occasional menubar popover rendering glitch is fixed. ## Recall 0.37.0 (July 2026) - **Parallel work, tracked properly.** Each workstream gets its own thread instead of being mashed into one. The menubar shows what you are focused on plus an "Also live" list of everything else in flight, with time counted honestly per stream. - **Project recognition, rebuilt.** Recall derives your projects from the real shape of your work, so there are far fewer stitched-together projects and junk cards. If it thinks two projects are the same, it suggests a merge and never fuses them behind your back. Rename a project and the name sticks. - **Recognition beyond code.** CRM records (Salesforce, HubSpot) and creative and office documents (Final Cut, Premiere, Photoshop, Logic, Word, Excel and more) become real projects, grouped by the actual document or record instead of lumped together as one app. - **When it isn't sure, it says so.** Work that cannot be confidently placed waits in an unassigned state, and a local background assistant files it into the right project only when several independent signals agree. Every automatic move is logged and reversible, and nothing leaves your Mac. - **Finish tasks right from the panels.** The Smart Return and "pick one" panels let you mark work done, small celebration included, and finished work is never suggested again. Smart Return no longer disappears on a timer. It waits for you. - **Browse any day, not just today.** The Today view can travel back in time. Open any past day and see exactly what you worked on, frozen as that day ended. - **Movies aren't work.** Recall tells doing from watching. Entertainment counts as a break, not a fake project, and you get a gentle nudge when you are drifting with real work open. - **Extra devices and steadier under load.** Add device slots right from your account, and in-flight work survives app restarts and updates with its time and context intact. ## Links - What's new: https://www.joinrecall.com/whats-new - Roadmap: https://www.joinrecall.com/roadmap - How Recall works: https://www.joinrecall.com/how-it-works - Smart Return: https://www.joinrecall.com/smart-return - Pricing: https://www.joinrecall.com/pricing - Community: https://www.joinrecall.com/community - Site overview for AI agents: https://www.joinrecall.com/llms.txt
