# Smart Return > Source: https://www.joinrecall.com/smart-return > How Recall hands back the thread you were holding after an interruption, and shows exactly what will reopen before anything opens. Smart Return hands back the thread you were holding: where you left off, the note you left, and exactly what will reopen. Under it, one list of everything waiting on you. ## When it appears It is there when you come back. A small panel at the bottom right of your screen. It never takes your keystrokes, so you can keep typing where you were. - After a break: on its own, with the thread you were in before you left. - When you drift far: on its own, so you can get back to the thread you were on. - Whenever you ask: Option Command R (⌥⌘R) from anywhere, or Smart Return at the foot of the menu bar tray. To stop it after breaks, turn off Settings → Nudges → Smart Return. ⌥⌘R still works. ## The card One card, and the thread is back in your hands. It leads with your note and shows exactly what will reopen. - Where you left off: the heading, with how long ago you left. Below it the project and thread, the line you left with Option Command B (⌥⌘B) in quotes, and the newest note on the project. With no note, the card shows the question you left open. - Opens …, Choose: exactly what Return will reopen, for example "Opens Code, Figma and Google Chrome". Choose lists every app, tab, file and coding-agent chat, all ticked, so you can untick what you don't need. Everything starts ticked every time. - Return to where you were: reopens everything ticked in one click, and brings the item you were last on to the front. - Done, show next: marks the thread finished and moves the card to the next thread you left a note on, however old the note is. A note always wins over a guess. - All caught up: when there are no more notes to return to. It replaces only the card; people and agents still waiting stay listed. ## Every way back Every way back shows what it opens. A row in the tray, Resume in Loops, Return to session on a thread page, Recall me on a drift reminder, Open chat on an ask: each one shows the restore checklist first, with every app, tab, file and chat ticked. The item you were last on, marked "left off here", opens last so it ends up in front. Cancel changes nothing. Had a Claude Code or Codex chat open on that thread? That exact chat comes back too, and Recall never opens a second terminal next to the one already running it. What comes back, app by app: - Chrome, Safari, Arc, Firefox, Brave, Edge: the tab you were on, only that tab. - VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf: the workspace folder you were in. - JetBrains IDEs: your project, or the IDE itself. - Xcode: the file you had open. - Terminal, iTerm2: a new window in the folder you were working in. - Obsidian: the vault and the note. - Claude Code, Codex: the exact chat you had open. - Figma, Slack and other apps: the app opens, you pick the file or channel. ## Waiting on you One list, one action per row. It sits under the card, in the same order as the tray. It holds the tasks from your chats in Slack, Microsoft Teams, Telegram, WhatsApp or Mail, coding agents that need you, and the notes you left. - An agent needs approval: a Claude Code or Codex session stopped to ask you. Go to session takes you to its tab. It always comes first. - Someone asked you for something: Open chat takes you to the conversation, or tick it done. - You said you would do something: Open chat, or tick it done. - An agent finished its turn: Go to session. It waits for you and never nags. - A note on another thread: Return to it puts that thread on the card. ## Loops The whole list, in one place. Smart Return shows the top of the list. Loops holds all of it, in lists like Reminders. Open the chat, go to the session or resume the work, and snooze what can wait. - Waiting: everything a person, an agent or your own note left for you. - People: what people asked you for, and what you said you would do. - Agents: Claude Code and Codex sessions that finished or need your approval. - Notes: every note you left yourself, by day. Nothing gets lost. - Projects: one list per project, with people, agents, unfinished work and notes. ## Platform and pricing Smart Return is part of the one Recall plan. Nothing here is a separate tier or add-on. - $14 / month, or $9 / month billed annually at $108 / year. - 30-day free trial of the full app. No card required to start. - macOS on Apple Silicon, M1 or newer. Windows is in active development. - Billing runs through Paddle as Merchant of Record. - Early-user pricing is locked in for subscribers. ## Community The subreddit is public: anyone can read and search it. The Telegram group is smaller, and the people in it see builds before they ship. ## Links - Smart Return: https://www.joinrecall.com/smart-return - Smart Return in the user guide: https://www.joinrecall.com/docs/smart-return - Going back to work in the user guide: https://www.joinrecall.com/docs/going-back-to-work - Loops in the user guide: https://www.joinrecall.com/docs/loops - How Recall works: https://www.joinrecall.com/how-it-works - AI agents: https://www.joinrecall.com/ai-agents-mcp - Docs: https://www.joinrecall.com/docs - Pricing: https://www.joinrecall.com/pricing - Community: https://www.joinrecall.com/community - Subreddit r/joinrecall: https://www.reddit.com/r/joinrecall/ - Privacy Policy: https://www.joinrecall.com/privacy-policy - Site overview for AI agents: https://www.joinrecall.com/llms.txt
